# Create a Determining Attribute from a Data Block

To see a more detailed explanation of determining attributes, see the ‘Determining Attributes’ section of this guide. What is important to know here is that you should only set a determining attribute on a field that does not contain unique values. In this file, for instance, you would not set a determining attribute on the ‘account\_num’ field, as each row contains unique data. Fields such as ‘account type’ and ‘currency’, however, are good candidates for a determining attribute, as these are values that can be used to select an account for testing.

To create a determining attribute, click on the field name in the lower left panel. This will show the settings for that field in the lower right panel. In the bottom section, click on the check box for ‘Determining’ and click ‘Apply’ to set the determining attribute. TDO will return a message to indicate that the action was successful, and a check mark will replace the check box.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.apica.io/platform-docs/test-data-orchestrator-tdo/user-documentation/tdo-project-builder-user-guide/working-with-source-files/data-blocks/create-a-determining-attribute-from-a-data-block.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
